Fort Lauderdale bass fishing can really allow you to experience all that Florida is about. When you are traveling here, you have to set the hook into our exotic species. The Florida peacock bass is the dominant bass that is fished here in Miami. Our local experts have extensive knowledge about fishing here in South Florida. Miami is not the only destination that can produce exotics. Broward county holds excellent waters to do so as well. Captain Robert Miley is our Miami local expert and Captain Brett Isackson is our Broward County local expert.

Captain Robert Miley had the pleasure to go bass fishing with Julie and Don. They were traveling from Dallas, Texas on vacation. While they were here in South Florida, bass fishing was on the list to do. Julie and Don went out on a quick 4 hour trip that led them to experience something they never imagined. It was truly a trip of a lifetime for them.

Several lakes and canal systems fill South Florida. In Miami, one of the best lakes is Airport Lakes. Airport Lakes has a side lake called Blue Lagoon that has produced excellent fishing all year long. One of the impressive parts about fishing in Blue Lagoon is the ability to catch a variety of species. Florida peacock bass dominate the waterway but you can also catch Snook, jack crevalle, largemouth bass, tilapia and a number of other members of the cichlid family.

Airport Lakes is a great destination for anglers that want the ultimate experience. As well, it is great for family, loved ones, and inexperienced anglers that want to set the hook. Every chance to do so can lead to the fish you dream about. Julie and Don can attest to that fact.

Weather conditions were beautiful for this fishing trip. Everything lined up for an absolute slugfest on the water. Julie and Don caught 10 quality peacock bass with all of them in the 3 to 5-pound range. The biggest bass weighed 5.25 pounds. A fish of this magnitude is considered a trophy peacock bass. Along with this great catch, they also caught a monster freshwater Snook.

This Snook weighed in at 17 pounds and took them for a fight they won’t forget. Just shortly after bringing this giant to the boat, they also caught a 12 pound jack crevalle. This fishing trip was a never ending day of catching fish. Julie and Don caught a big tilapia to top it off. When you visit Miami, you can catch all the species you can hope for.

Captain Robert Miley is looking forward to catching so many more exotic species in Miami next time they come back to enjoy South Florida Fishing.

Just shortly after this fishing trip, Julie and Don traveled further north to Broward County to see what they can get themselves into. Captain Brett Isackson had the pleasure of fishing with them at Markham Park which is right on the edge of the Florida Everglades as well as Fort Lauderdale. They were able to experience more bass fishing along with checking off another Florida exotic on their list.

Florida blessed them with another beautiful day on the water. Don and Julie put several more exotic species in the boat including peacock bass and snakeheads. They also caught a Snook but nothing compared to the one they caught in Miami. Don and Julie were excited to get the opportunity to catch the exotic snakehead. They really enjoyed their aggressive strike along with their powerful fight.

Captain Brett Isackson is excited to get another opportunity to catch more species with Don and Julie next time they visit South Florida!

When you are planning your next vacation to South Florida, make sure to consider getting out in the outdoors. One of the best ways to do so is on a bass fishing charter. You can experience endless amounts of species that come in a variety of sizes. Bring your family along on an adventure of a lifetime. Florida has a multitude of bass species you can catch. By far, the most common is the Florida largemouth bass. In addition, many travelers to South Florida also enjoy catching the exotic peacock bass. Also, you can catch sunshine bass, spotted bass, and striped bass. When it comes to catching these species, it all depends on which location and destination you will be traveling to.

Best time of year to go bass fishing in Florida?

When you come out on a fishing charter and adventure, enjoy catching largemouth bass and peacock bass. Those are the main targeted species here in Florida. In order to determine which destination would be best, you have to choose the species. Largemouth bass can be caught in every freshwater lake, pond, or river you can find. Peacock bass can only be caught in South Florida. The furthest north they have migrated to would be the Lake Osborne Chain of Lakes in Boynton Beach, FL.

The best time of year to come fish for largemouth bass is during their spawn. A spawn is an event of mating that occurs multiple times of year for many bass species. Each spawn will vary based off the temperatures and water conditions. Bass spawn at an optimal water temperature ranging from 65-75 degrees. These conditions begin to stabilize during the month of January into February. The best times to come catch largemouth bass here in Florida is from February through May. If you can plan your trip around moon phases that will give you the best chance at catching very large trophy-sized bass.

Bass Fishing in Florida 3

Florida Peacock Bass are highly exotic species that love the sunshine here in Florida. Peacock bass spawn during the months of April through September, also depending on water temperatures. They love to reside in very warm waters which are also the best time to come catch one. Females typically are the larger fish. The males or the protectors typically don’t get as large but grow a knot on top of their head. Peacock bass are incredibly fun to catch as they are aggressive, hard-pulling, and very colorful.

Best time of day to go bass fishing?

Many ask us on a daily basis: “When is the best time to go fishing in Florida?” The best time to go bass fishing is dependent on fishing conditions. If the fishing conditions are warm, the best time to come bass fishing is in the early morning. There is nothing like early morning topwater bites whether fishing for largemouth or peacock bass.

Florida, like the rest of the United States, experiences cold fronts during the winter months. If the cold fronts drop the water temperatures significantly, then the afternoon bite will be the strongest. If you are fishing during our warm months here in Florida, the early morning hours is when the temperature is the lowest and the bass bite the best. Get on the water before sunrise and get to your favorite fishing spot during safelight. Yet again, peacock bass love the warm water, so when the temperature of the water is highest, typically is the best time to get out there.

Dolphin on Fly While Fort Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing

The ocean was an amazing azure blue and flat as liquid glass.  The boat was drifting as if suspended between two other worlds of brilliant blue sky and the world of gin-clear water below.  It is hard to judge depth in ocean water that is so clean and pure – fish just appear from nowhere gliding up to see what you are and if there are morsels good to eat.  It was on one of these days when the boat was drifting motionless in the heat and stillness of a Florida summer day when I looked over the side and saw a small school of dolphin circling the boat.  I rushed into the cabin and unlimbered my 10 weight fly rod.  I was so excited I was shaking trying to on a fly.  This was my first and as good a chance as I was ever going to have to hook a dolphin on the fly with Captain Wayne Fellows!

I went to the back of the boat ready to cast.   A dolphin swam past the transom about 20 yards off- standing in the corner of boat I backcast to my right side parallel and down the side of the boat and towards the bow then out into the blue- as soon as the fly hit the water I slowly stripped back in and on this first cast the dolphin saw the fly and made its move- I couldn’t believe my luck!  He gulped down the fly and took off- I held the rod pointed at the fish and jerked back on the line to set the hook- as soon as he felt the hook set he leaped three great jumps and pulled the line tight.  I held the line tight against the rod and I reeled in the slack and now I had the fish on rod and real.  He made a couple of good runs and I just watched, savoring the moment!   I began to reel him in and I called for the gaff- he made a couple of good turns at boat side and he was gaffed and brought on board.  I have great memories of the day, the picture you see above, and oh did I tell you, it was not a really BIG dolphin, it was just my first on fly!

Captain Wayne had the pleasure of fishing with a wonderful family this month. Christian, his brother Jon, his son Jacob and his son Jacob Jr along with two young ladies came out to explore what offshore fishing had to offer. They were traveling from Brazil to spend some time at this beautiful destination. While here, they had to get out in the deep blue sea.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing AdventureThey adventured out on a two day fishing charter out of Fort Lauderdale. The weather conditions were great on both days. Sea conditions were not as great on the first day creating an opportunity to fish closer to shore. While fishing there, they caught several species of fish. The main catch was migrating and spawning Snook. Most of the catches of Snook weighed in at 15-20 pounds.

Sea conditions laid down and allowed them to go offshore the second day. Bottom fishing was what they wanted to do while offshore fishing. Captain Wayne took them 15 miles offshore to one of his productive bottom fishing spots. After several drops, they started hooking into big red snapper. Cut bait was the magic on this fishing trip.

This awesome group got to experience many different catches. They had a grouper on as well but you have to know how to fish for them. When grouper get hooked into, they want to run and dig into the rocks. Once this happens, you are most likely going to lose the fish.

Some additional species caught were sea bass. Sea bass can be caught on the bottom as well. Interesting enough, the reef they were fishing also was holding barracuda. This group really enjoyed landing a 5 foot barracuda.

Captain Wayne really enjoyed fishing with these clients. It is always nice to be able to share something you love with travelers and visitors. Captain Scott holds Fort Lauderdale close to his heart and would love to show you what is so magical about this destination. He looks forward to seeing you on the water next time.

Finally, we get to the catch of the day. Pablo and his friends landed a beautiful sailfish while fishing with live bait. The bait of choice was a google-eye. They also love to eat pilchards and blue runners. Whatever live bait you can get your hands on will provide you the best chance to catch that trophy fish. As a result, you have much great success putting a wide variety of species in the boat. Sailfish put up an excellent fight truly worth experiencing.

Certainly, this amazing group of men had a fantastic time cruising offshore. The ability to relax, sit back and enjoy a couple cold ones while reeling in fish is what life is all about. Bring your family and friends on a fishing adventure of a lifetime. You never know what you will catch and every fishing trip is a new adventure.

Furthermore, one of the many benefits of fishing out of Fort Lauderdale Marina is that you can come back and enjoy downtown Fort Lauderdale after your trip. Give your captain some time after the trip to clean your fish and you can take it to the local restaurant to have them cook it up. There is no better way to end a day of fishing then relaxing with your friends, enjoying the Fort Lauderdale views, beaches and eating your fresh catch!

Captain Barker is looking forward to the next opportunity to take out Pablo and his crew. They were awesome to fish with and they absolutely had a blast.

Fort Lauderdale is one of the best locations to come visit. Don’t miss out on the endless fishing adventures that are available to you. Bring your family along on an adventure that can change your life. Relax and enjoy while your professional captain take you to the prime fishing grounds for your desired catch.
